Dance

A trip back in time to an old image from 2015, with my friend Freya.

Freya came out with me to an old mill in Tewkesbury that has been empty for nearly twenty years. We wanted to shoot some gritty urbex nudes inside some of its wonderful rooms. It is a huge place, which I am sure will completely fall down one of these days. Great care really does need to be taken walking around these old buildings, there are holes in the ceiling, holes in the floor and lots of old rusty machinery all over the place. However you just couldn’t get an image like the one below in a boring studio with a white wall.

We found a room with this huge vent leading out through the roof, its an old flour mill so I assume this is part of some sort of silo that must have once been on the roof, that’s my assumption anyway. The light below the opening was beautiful, outside it was grey and although its hard to see in this image it is actually raining outside and she was getting wet shooting this.

We thought it would be good to try a few dance poses, and seeing as Freya has a ballet background this was really easy for her to do. When it came to editing this image I did a little double exposure and some bluring of parts of the image. This isn't something I would usually do but I feel works well with this particular image. I feel it helps with the idea of movement This is probably one of my favourite images I have ever taken, I absolutely adore it, and I also love how her red hair is shining in the light.

Freya is one of the hardest working models I know, her posing is always amazing, and she really doesn't mind getting covered in dirt or find herself freezing cold during a shoot, infact I swear she is cold bloodied, she doesn’t like to be too warm. She really will push herself to get those amazing images, and is such a positive person, and it was always a pleasure to work with her while she lived around these parts. Unfortunately she moved quite a long way away but I am hopeful that our paths will cross again some day.

Thanks for reading :)
